70 years: Treaty of friendship, alliance and mutual assistance between Russia and China

February 14 is a special date for Russia and the People’s Republic of China: on this day exactly 70 years ago, in 1950, on February 14, the Soviet-Chinese "Treaty of Friendship, Union and Mutual Assistance" was signed in Moscow. The agreement entered into force on April 11 of the same year and was valid until April 11, 1980. This was a period of difficult relations between the two countries.

July 16, 2001 in Moscow, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Jiang Zemin signed the Russian-Chinese agreement on good neighborliness, friendship and cooperation. The agreement is designed for 20 years with an automatic extension of validity for five years, if neither side expresses its intention to withdraw from the agreement.
